Portrait of Lorraine Adele Bouchard

Lorraine Adele Bouchard

1940 – May 8, 2026

Lafayette, LA

“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.”
— Traditional Catholic prayer

Lorraine Adele Bouchard, 86, a lifelong parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Church in Lafayette, entered eternal rest on May 8, 2026, the morning after she finished her rosary with her granddaughter.

Lorraine was born in 1940 in Breaux Bridge and grew up speaking French at home and English at school. She married Lucien Bouchard at St. Bernard Church in 1960 and spent the next sixty years keeping their house full of children, cousins and whoever else happened to be hungry.

For 38 years she taught First Communion classes at St. Anne, and for most of them she also baked the cake. She served on the altar society, ran the parish fair's sweet-dough pie table, and visited the homebound every Wednesday with a thermos of coffee and the week's bulletin. She prayed for people by name, and she kept the list in her apron pocket.

She is survived by her children, Paul (Denise) Bouchard, Claire (Michael) Guidry, and Anne-Marie Bouchard; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her sister, Yvonne Hebert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucien, in 2019; her son, Marc; and her parents, Alcide and Odile Thibodeaux.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 14, at St. Anne Catholic Church from 5 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated there on Friday at 10 a.m., followed by burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for Masses to be said or donations to the St. Anne homebound ministry.
